July 4, 2026, marks the Nation’s semi quincentennial – or 250th anniversary – of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Beginning in January, the timeless columned entrance to the Washoe County Historic Courthouse will be open one day each month. Shortly after 8 a.m., Court will hold a Moment of Honor led by a local champion of democracy who will lead the Pledge of Allegiance and present a local musical artist to perform a patriotic song. The champion will also be given the opportunity to lead a presentation on a selected historical figure – who may make a special appearance - significant to America’s 250 years of nationhood.

The Second Judicial District Court will proudly host the 30th Anniversary Celebration of its Adult Drug Court (ADC) on Thursday, July 10th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Complex Litigation Courtroom CLC, located at 75 Court St., Reno.
Attorneys specializing in Family Law, Civil/General Law, Probate Law, and Landlord/Tenant Law will volunteer their time to provide free legal assistance. Each participant will get a 15-minute session to talk with a lawyer. A Spanish interpreter will be available.
The District Court will never unexpectedly text or email official Court documents. Any communication from the District Court of official documents will occur via U.S. Mail or through the Court’s electronic filing system (eFlex).
This is a time to honor and celebrate the more than 22 million Americans in recovery, including those whose recovery was aided by a treatment court.
