The Nevada Humane Society (NHS) and Washoe County Regional Animal Services (WCRAS), partners in northern Nevada working to improve animal welfare in the region, are hosting a Town Hall event on February 28 beginning at 6 p.m. at the NHS facility. The Town Hall will take place in the Education Room shared by both organizations at their shared facility at 2825 Longley Lane, Suite B. Regional Animal Services is seeking information related to animal abuse on Gentry Way near South Virginia Street, Reno

Washoe County Regional Animal Services (WCRAS) is seeking information to help identify two individuals who are persons of interest in an animal cruelty investigation. The dog involved is described as an adult, tri-colored, German Shepherd or Husky type, with a second dog that appeared to be a darker colored, bully breed type dog wearing a winter coat. This occurred on January 15, 2024, around 1:10 p.m., in the area of Gentry Way and South Virginia Steet, Reno.

WCRAS is seeking the community’s assistance in identifying the two individuals and the dogs in the footage below. The description provided by witnesses to WCRAS is that they are two, adult, white males; one wearing a black sweatshirt and black beanie, and the other wearing a white and black jacket. They were last seen walking towards the Park on Virginia apartments located at 3295 South Virginia Street, Reno, Nevada.

Washoe County Regional Animal Services wants to speak with these two individuals. Tips on their identity and location or videos of the incident may be sent anonymously to WCRAS by calling Animal Services Dispatch at (775) 322-3647 or by emailing pets@washoecounty.gov.

The girl scouts of Troop 376 have built a donation box for Washoe County Regional Animal Services, and they are hoping you will help them fill it with unopened pet food. On August 5, 2023, Girl Scout Troop 376 is asking everyone to come to Washoe County Regional Animal Services between 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and donate unopened pet food. Every family that donates will receive a delicious box of Girl Scout cookies. Regional Animal Services uses donated pet food to help feed the pets belonging to the senior and homeless populations in Washoe County.

WCRAS currently has an increased need for small bags of dog food, 10 lbs. and under.

Regional Animal Services conducts disaster exercise

As part of Washoe County Regional Animal Service’s (WCRAS) continued focus on safety and emergency preparedness, WCRAS will conduct a full-scale exercise simulating a local disaster requiring the evacuation of all animals in the Washoe County Regional Animal Services Shelter. This exercise will take place on Tuesday, May 2, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The exercise will test staff disaster preparedness and response procedures in preparation for possible local disasters such as wildfires, earthquakes or floods.
