The Washoe County Clerk’s Office launched its passport services in July 2023 and has since processed around 3,500 passports. To celebrate a year of service to the community and commemorate National Passport Month, the Clerk will be adding two weekends of passport appointments to its regular weekday schedule.
National Passport Month is celebrated every September with the goal of promoting awareness about passport requirements and services. Last year, 24 million passports were issued by the U.S. Department of State.
“The passport acceptance program has been a lauded success over the past year,” Washoe County Clerk Jan Galassini said. “To celebrate National Passport Month, I am excited to announce that we will launch weekend passport acceptance hours for two weekends in September. We will use these days as a test run to potentially launch permanent weekend hours in the future.”
Passport acceptance hours will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., BY APPOINTMENT ONLY, on September 21, 22, 28, and 29. Galassini advised that weekend appointment times are filling up quickly.
The Clerk’s office only processes first-time and children passport applications; passport photos are available on-site. Although the Clerk’s Office does not process adult passport renewal applications, their office can take passport photos for renewals and visas.
Passport books for adults are $130, and passport books for children under 15 are $100. Expedited processing is $60. The Clerk’s Office charges an acceptance fee of $35 per application. Passport photos are $15.
Regular weekday appointment hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The office is located on the first floor of the Washoe County Complex Building A, at 1001 E. 9th Street, Reno.
