Washoe Opioid Abatement and Recovery Fund grant Released

Washoe County is excited and proud to announce the opening of the Washoe Opioid Abatement and Recovery Fund (WOARF) Notice of Funding Opportunity supported by the Opioid Litigation Settlement Agreements and One Nevada Agreement.   

The grant program offers $4,500,000 in funding to eligible organizations that provide services in Washoe County that can aid in a strong and equitable recovery. Applications are due June 30, 2024 You can access the application at: https://gn.ecivis.com/GO/gn_redir/T/1ppacq4rakprd 

The Intent to Apply for WOARF must be completed by June 7th, 2024. 

The grant program is focused on five priorities from the Washoe County Opioid Use Community Needs Assessment 2023-2025 

  • Ensure funding for the array of opioid use disorder treatment services for uninsured and underinsured Washoe county residents. 
  • Initiating buprenorphine in the emergency department, as well as during inpatient hospital stays, and care navigators to assist with setting up outpatient resources for continued care and management. 
  • Use a multidisciplinary approach to providing overdose prevention outreach and education, inclusive of under resourced communities, such as BIPOC communities, in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner (organizations, media, churches). 
  • Implement child welfare best practices for supporting families impacted by substance use. 
  • Increase detoxification and short-term rehabilitation program capacity. 

In general, projects will be prioritized that partner or collaborate with existing Washoe County services and are in alignment with the WOARF values adapted from Johns Hopkins Principles for the Use of Funds from the Opioid Litigation and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Definition and Principles of Recovery.
