Washoe County to begin Older Americans Month celebration

Reno, Nevada. April 28, 2016. The public is invited to the annual kickoff celebration of Older Americans Month at Washoe County Senior Services in Reno on Friday at 9 a.m.  This year’s theme is “Blaze a Trail.” The event will begin two days before the national start of Older Americans Month which is Sunday.
As part of the opening ceremony, Washoe County Senior Services will be hosting an information fair. With more than 40 local agencies participating, people can learn about the new Senior Ambassador Program, volunteer opportunities, Veteran Services and find an activity working with seniors.
Washoe County Senior Services is teaming up with the cities of Reno and Sparks, AARP, the Alzheimer’s Association and many other agencies. More than 50 events will be held for seniors throughout May.
Pick up a copy of the Older Americans Month program at Sparks City Hall, Reno City Hall, Incline Village Parks and Recreation, Sun Valley General Improvement District, and all Washoe County Libraries and senior centers. It is also available Washoe County Senior Services website.
Seniors and members of the community are invited to stay for a special lunch in honor of Older Americans Month. A suggested donation of $2 is asked for seniors 60 and over, individuals 59 and under $4.
