Washoe County Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Laura Knight was honored with the 2023 Governor’s Award for her work promoting organ and tissue donation. Gov. Joe Lombardo and the Nevada Donor Network Foundation presented the award on March 15 in Carson City.
Dr. Knight is a board-certified forensic pathologist and holds dual appointments at the rank of Associate Professor in the departments of Pathology and Pediatrics at the University of Nevada, Reno, School of Medicine. The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office serves 20 counties in Nevada and California.
The Governor’s Award was given to Dr. Knight for “outstanding efforts in supporting the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.”
“Dr. Knight’s tireless efforts to make donation possible for those who would have never had the chance before, along with her commitment to promoting donation awareness and registration, make her one of Nevada’s greatest champions of our mission,” Monica Myles, community development manager with the Nevada Donor Network, said.
