Washoe County announces the development of its first-ever Community Climate Action Plan (CAP) as part of its commitment to sustainability and to net-zero community greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The County invites community members to participate in shaping the CAP by providing feedback through upcoming listening sessions and an online survey.
The Reno area is the fastest-warming metro in the country, with direct impacts to public health and the environment. Washoe County seeks to address inequalities in climate change impacts, particularly among Low Income and Disadvantaged Communities (LIDACs), ensuring that greenhouse gas emission-reduction solutions prioritize equity and racial justice.

A Climate Action Plan is a strategic document that outlines measures and policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and actively address climate challenges. It serves as an important communication tool for government and the public by defining greenhouse gas reduction goals based on local priorities and by developing a framework with tactical activities to help achieve those reduction goals. Community participation in shaping Washoe County’ Climate Action Plan is crucial for creating a more sustainable and equitable future for our community.
