Washoe County Emergency Management has installed a new avalanche safety sign in Incline Village and will reveal it on Wednesday, Oct. 29.

Why: Washoe County has the only urban avalanche area in the Lake Take Basin, an area that includes Third Creek and Crystal Bay. Washoe County Emergency Management has worked with avalanche experts from around the globe for many years to better understand the risks to our community and how to communicate that risk to the public.
In partnership with North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District, Sierra Avalanche Center, Incline Village General Improvement District, Nevada Office of Emergency Management, and FEMA, Washoe County is now unveiling a new avalanche safety and warning sign to prevent avalanches often caused by backcountry recreation.
