A breathalyzer kiosk at the Department of Alternative Sentencing
The Washoe County Department of Alternative Sentencing was awarded a $67,000 grant from the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety.
The funds will support ongoing efforts in reducing drunken driving recidivism as well as providing greater access to justice for clients.
“This funding will strengthen our commitment to maximizing accountability and treatment within the community by allowing us to implement technology that ensures compliance to court orders and alcohol abstinence,” Alternative Sentencing Chief Justin Roper states.
The grant will provide funding to reach the following goals/objectives:
- (2) Additional check-in and alcohol monitoring kiosks will be deployed in region specific testing locations within Washoe County to maximize compliance opportunities.
- Encourage use of kiosks by other local jurisdictions.
- Increase efficiency in data collection through enhancements to case management systems for rapid reporting.
The probable outcome of this project is greater compliance from offenders in outlying areas of Washoe County who struggle with transportation challenges.
The Washoe County Department of Alternative Sentencing is responsible for the monitoring and supervision of both pre-trial supervised releasees and post adjudication misdemeanor offenses in Washoe County which totals around 2,100 participants on average.
The grant program will run through September 2024.
