Reno, Nev. April 9, 2019. The following report highlights several important agenda items from the Washoe County Board of Commissioners meeting:
1. Board of County Commissioners provides direction and next steps for Swan Lake. Commissioners heard a presentation regarding an overview of the current mitigation efforts and several options for next steps for the Swan Lake closed hydrobasin in Lemmon Valley. After discussion, Commissioners gave direction to staff to contain Swan Lake within a specified boundary.
With this direction, staff will bring back a future Agenda item that will contain options, timelines and funding strategies with the goal of containing Swan Lake.
“Thank you Commissioners for the direction to create a boundary within Swan Lake,” says Dave Solaro, Assistant County Manager. “After working with engineers I will bring back a matrix to this board in the near future that will include adequate schedules, funding strategies that you have the ability to move forward on based on a project or series of projects for Swan Lake.”
2. Commissioners approve RTC’s 2020 Program of Projects. Commissioners approved agreements between Washoe County, City of Reno, City of Sparks and the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) for a variety of street and highway projects, known as RTC’s 2020 Program of Projects.
The 2020 Program of Projects identifies the proposed use of the fuel tax and outlines specific projects and proposed funding for various activities such as design and construction engineering. Projects included in the 2020 program have been identified by a committee of planning and public works representatives from Reno, Sparks and Washoe County.
The specific agreements approved by the Board today, will authorize work activities outlined in the 2020 Program of Projects.
