TODAY: Washoe County Parks to hold May Arboretum Greenhouse Ribbon Cutting

by | Aug 25, 2017

Reno, Nev. August 30, 2017. Washoe County Regional Parks and Open Space is proud to announce the official ribbon cutting and unveiling of the new May Arboretum Greenhouse at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park.
Under construction since fall of 2016, the May Arboretum Greenhouse has been in the works since the 2002 Rancho San Rafael Master Plan. “The master plan for the May Arboretum was always to have a Greenhouse,” says Parks Superintendent, Colleen Wallace-Barnum. “The May Arboretum Greenhouse will serve as a regional plant conservation greenhouse to supply our Arboretum and parks with ornamental and native plants, revegetate area plants that are rare, threatened or endangered and allow us to collect seeds and propagate plant species.”
The May Arboretum Greenhouse was made possible by a combination of donations from nonprofit Garden Gate Club, Community Special Projects funds, and funding from a voter approved bond in 2000.
