Tahoe East Shore traffic and parking reminders

by | Mar 12, 2021

Spring is here, and the 13 partner agencies of the State Route 28 Corridor Management Team want to remind visitors to the east shore of Lake Tahoe to park safe and park smart to help ease congestion along this popular National Scenic Byway. The Tahoe East Shore Trailhead paid parking requirements will resume on Monday, March 15, for the 2021 season. You will need your license plate number and credit card information for payment at any kiosk. A mobile payment option is coming soon. The Tahoe Transportation District encourages visitors to come early or later in the day to pay a lower rate. The current rate information and frequently asked questions is available at https://www.tahoetransportation.org/parking/

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Nevada Division of State Parks is continuing to follow state guidelines limiting large groups of people at Sand Harbor until further notice.

Please help the corridor operations staff by remembering:

  • On SR 28 there is a No Parking Zone from Hidden Beach area to ¾ mile south of Sand Harbor.  This includes no stopping, no drop-offs, and no unloading from the highway in this segment including at the Hidden Beach Transit Stop or Sand Harbor. You could be ticketed with fines up to $305.
  • Do your part to keep Lake Tahoe beaches clean. Please pack out all your trash, or place inside conveniently placed trash receptacles.
  • The pavement and bridge surfaces can heat up quickly so think twice before bringing your dog on warm days, and please pick up after your pet.
  • To avoid costly surprises, parents, please give a gentle reminder to teenage drivers that if they park illegally, the ticket is to the registered owner of the vehicle.

The agencies that operate and maintain the SR 28 corridor encourage everyone to do their part to have a safe and enjoyable summer on Tahoe’s east shore.
