The Second Judicial District Court will proudly host the 30th Anniversary Celebration of its Adult Drug Court (ADC) on Thursday, July 10th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Complex Litigation Courtroom CLC, located at 75 Court St., Reno.
Since its founding in July 1995, the Second Judicial District Court’s Specialty Courts have provided a critical alternative to incarceration by engaging participants in intensive, court-supervised treatment programs. The mission of the Specialty Courts is to improve quality of life, reduce recidivism, and increase community safety and awareness for individuals struggling with substance use and mental health disorders.
The Adult Drug Court began with just four participants under the leadership of The Hon. Judge Peter Breen. Over the past three decades, it has grown to encompass multiple specialty courts, including:
- Adult Drug Court
- Felony DUI Court
- Medication-Assisted Treatment Court
- Mental Health Court
- Prison Re-Entry Court
- Veterans Treatment Court
- Young Offender Court
These courts are driven by a multidisciplinary team of judges, attorneys, court coordinators, treatment providers, parole and probation officers, peer support specialists, education/vocational providers and drug and alcohol testing staff—all working together to support participant recovery and rehabilitation.
The anniversary event will feature reflections on program milestones, remarks from distinguished guests, presentation of a certificate of gubernatorial recognition, and light refreshments.
“This celebration not only honors the longevity and impact of the Adult Drug Court but also reaffirms the Court’s commitment to fostering lives of recovery, stability, and hope in our community,” said Judge Tammy Riggs, who currently presides over the Adult Drug Court.
