The Washoe County Human Services Agency (HSA) Children’s Services Division is turning Washoe County blue this spring to raise awareness about child abuse and neglect.
HSA received 6,074 reports of child abuse and/or neglect and reunified 236 children with their families during Fiscal Year 2020.
“It’s incumbent upon us all to make sure Washoe County’s children are safe and secure,” said HSA Children’s Services Division Director Ryan Gustafson. “We hope this month highlights the importance of protecting our children, raises awareness about child abuse, and helps families in need of guidance, support and recovery.”
HSA asks the public to be vigilant and call 833-900-SAFE when reporting child abuse and/or neglect.
Hundreds of pinwheels have been planted at various Washoe County locations throughout the community to represent the joyful, carefree childhood every kid deserves. HSA invites the public to join us in raising awareness about National Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month by choosing one day in April to wear blue.
The media is invited anytime to film pinwheels, which have been planted at the following locations:
- Washoe County Administration Complex, located at 1001 E. 9th St., Reno
- Washoe County Human Services Agency, located at 350 S. Center St., Reno.
- District Attorney’s Office (Washoe County Child Advocacy Center)
