May is Older Americans Month

by | May 3, 2021

The Washoe County Human Services Agency (HSA) Senior Services Division is excited to reopen at 50 percent capacity, just in time for Older Americans Month. HSA, Reno, and Sparks are coming together in an effort to encourage the community to join us in honoring our seniors in Washoe County throughout the month of May.

Effective immediately, HSA will open its doors to the public, with COVID19 mitigation efforts, under the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control, and local and state government. The following is now open at 50 percent capacity:

  • The Reno Senior Center (1155 E. 9th Street), and the Sparks Senior Center (97 Richards Way), will be open to the public providing essential services and congregate meal service – 8 a.m. to 4:30p.m.
  • Congregate meal sites, located at the Sun Valley Senior Center, Lazy 5 Regional Park, and Cold Springs Community Center will be open to the public on a reduced schedule.  Hours vary by site.
  • In-room dining will be available at all Washoe County meal site locations on a first come, first serve basis.
  • To-go meals will continue to be available at all Washoe County meal site locations.
  • Daybreak (Adult Day Health Care), will resume operations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

*Occupancy rates vary by location.

Due to ongoing COVID-19 concerns in our community, Washoe County is not promoting or hosting in-person Older Americans Month 2021 programs and activities. However, several events will be offered virtually. The public can take part in those events by watching our Washoe County Television YouTube Channel.

Throughout the month of May, HSA and the Washoe County Health District encourage seniors and the general public to utilize the homebound COVID-19 vaccine program. People ages 16 and up, who are homebound, can call 775-328-2427 or email to sign up. Seniors can also sign up for a drive-through vaccine at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center by calling 775-328-2427 or scheduling an appointment online here.
