Washoe County Regional Parks and Open Space is currently in the process of updating its Park Master Plan for Rancho San Rafael Regional Park. This is the public’s opportunity to share their opinion on the what the future of the 575-acre park should look like.
The last Park Master Plan created for Rancho San Rafael Regional Park occurred in 1990. The current Park Master Plan for Rancho San Rafael Regional Park aims to establish a community vision for the park that will be a guiding document to meet the short-term and long-term recreational needs of the community today and throughout the next 20 years.
Rancho San Rafael is one of the largest landscaped parks in northern Nevada, and in 2022, the park welcomed more than 3.5 million visitors for numerous community events including the Great Reno Balloon Race, Dragon Lights, Art Town, Blues Festival and other outdoor concerts and special events.
The park is home to the Wilbur D. May Museum, Wilbur D. May Arboretum & Botanical Garden, historic ranch house, Nevada Farms and Families area, Herman’s Pond, multi-use pasture area for off-leash dog use, a disc golf course, Basque Sheepherder Monument, Reno Sport Complex, a new fitness court, numerous reservable picnic pavilions and gardens, and an extensive trail system consisting of Evans Creek Trail and East Keystone Canyon trailheads at the base of Peavine Mountain.
