Are You Earthquake Prepared?

by | Dec 23, 2015

Reno, Nevada. Dec. 23, 2015. Several earthquakes have hit our area recently, so now would be a good time to review your plan for an emergency.
During an earthquake, remember to immediately drop, cover, and hold on.
“You should take a moment to meet with your family, make a plan, assemble a kit, stay informed and be ready,” said Washoe County Emergency Manager Aaron Kenneston.
Also, look for water heaters that are not strapped to the wall, bookcases that are not held with Velcro to the wall, heavy objects above children’s beds, etc.
Child-proof latches are ideal for keeping dishes from not falling on the kitchen floor. Several stores in our area sell bookcase/TV Velcro, as well as putty for securing vases and breakable objects.
Citizens can go to http://www.readywashoe.com/ for more information on making plans, assembling kits, and staying informed as well.
Another good source for information is the University of Nevada Seismology Lab. They have the “Living With Earthquakes in Nevada” pamphlet online at  http://www.seismo.unr.edu/Preparedness.
