On Tuesday, Sept. 16, Washoe County will begin the demolition of the former West Hills Hospital and reconstruct it into a new Washoe Behavioral Health Center. Media are invited to the ceremonial “groundbreaking” with County Commissioners and representatives from the State of Nevada.
The 46,000-square-foot remodeled facility will provide approximately 70 beds, indoor/outdoor recreational areas, classrooms, group rooms, specialty therapeutic settings, clinic space, residential units and workforce training spaces. The intent is for the facility to be a center for teaching to train the next generation of clinical workforce while also assuring that Washoe County youth have access to the highest quality and most current standards of care.
Washoe County, with partnership from the State of Nevada, committed nearly $23 million to purchase the property and begin design and construction and plans to open in late 2027.
