The Washoe Opioid Abatement and Recovery Fund (WOARF) has launched a new dashboard to track grant awards from this special fund developed to combat the impacts of opioid use in Washoe County. Additionally, the WOARF team is seeking public input from community members to help understand and address the needs of the community. The Opioid Use Needs Assessment Community Survey is critical in shaping how Washoe County allocates resources and invests in long-term solutions.

Cares Campus winter overflow beds close for the season

Washoe County’s Housing and Homeless Services (HHS) Division closed its winter overflow beds Tuesday, following a phased shutdown that began on April 7. While these seasonal beds are closed, the Nevada Cares Campus Resource Center remains open 24/7 until May 1 as a warming center. After this date, the center will continue serving unhoused individuals without a designated bed at the Nevada Cares Campus or Our Place. The Resource Center provides essential day use services such as laundry, showers, restrooms, meals, and case management. It will be open 6 a.m. – 8 p.m. daily.

Washoe County and FEMA update Swan Lake and Silver Lake floodplain risk maps using latest mapping technology to inform residents of flood risks

Washoe County, in alignment with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) requirements and obligations, has updated flood hazard information using the latest data and mapping technology in the Swan Lake and Silver Lake areas of Washoe County. The remapping effort focuses on updating the FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) that identify the 1 percent risk (100-year) flood risks around Swan Lake and Silver Lake. This is one of several areas in Washoe County to be analyzed and remapped. 

Second Judicial District Court recognizes Impaired Driving Prevention Month

December is Impaired Driving Prevention Month, and the Second Judicial District Court recognizes the successes of the Felony DUI Treatment Court. The Second Judicial District Court established the Felony DUI Court in January of 2008 with a goal to rehabilitate third-time Felony DUI offenders through community-based treatment, intensive behavioral supervision, and judicial monitoring.
