Welcome to the Pod

Since launching our updated Newsroom called “Washoe Life,” the Communications team at Washoe County has been pondering what life in Washoe County really looks like. What is “Washoe Life”? Who are the people who live here and what are their stories? Press releases from county departments are important for sharing news and updates, but they don’t tell a story.

So we launched a new podcast, also called “Washoe Life,” to do exactly that: tell a story. We want to share the people, programs, issues, trends, and secrets that contribute to what it means to live in Washoe County. We know that life is a rich tapestry comprising many threads of different colors, textures, sizes, and shapes. We know we won’t get to every thread, but with your help, maybe we’ll be able to find some shape and depth in the process.

Yes, we need your help. Who are the people we need to meet? What stories need to be told? What do you want to know more about?

Our episodes will be a mix of light and heavy, informational and inspirational. We want our listeners to learn a thing or two about the county (lowercase, general area we live in) and the County (uppercase, the government entity). We won’t get political. We won’t try to be all things to all people. We will just try to explore and understand Washoe Life, one story at a time.

Your hosts are Washoe County Communications Director Nancy Leuenhagen and Communications Manager Bethany Drysdale. Leuenhagen brings decades of experience in radio and TV news, while Drysdale’s background stems from newspaper journalism. If you have ideas for episodes, please email us at washoe311@washoecounty.gov. And stay tuned for a new episode every other week, found on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Play, and most streaming platforms.
