Join Washoe County Regional Parks and Open Space and Washoe Little League as we break ground on two new softball fields at South Valleys Regional Park.
Washoe Little League has seen a 200 percent increase in softball participation in the last five years, but players still have to rely on borrowed school fields and aging facilities. The new youth softball complex is made possible by a $3.5 million grant from the William N Pennington Foundation, and Washoe Little League is conducting a private fund-raising campaign to add lights and scoreboards.
“This is an amazing milestone for Washoe Softball and sends a clear message that equitable facilities for girls’ sports matter in our community,” Dan Gallagher, Washoe Little League Capital Campaign Chair, said. “This complex will enable Washoe Little League to provide safe, local, affordable opportunities to play for the girls in our community now and for generations to come.”
“This is an exciting collaboration with Washoe Little League to elevate our park facility,” Parks Superintendent Stephanie D’Arcy said. “We are so grateful to the William N Pennington Foundation for its continued support of our quality of life in Washoe County and investing in projects that offer so much to our residents.”
