The Tentative Subdivision Map for the Ascente Subdivision was first approved on June 6, 2017. Included with the many Development Code required conditions was a pedestrian/equestrian path along Fawn Lane. With the ongoing construction of the Ascente Subdivision, focus turned to designing a path within the right-of-way that would enhance the safety of pedestrian/equestrian use along Fawn Lane and meet the needs and expectations of the Washoe County residents that live and move through the area.
The “optimized” draft design is being developed by the Ascente engineers, with direction from the County and with input from the residents. The design continues to change with the input from Washoe County and the residents, and we are now recommending the pedestrian/equestrian path to be located on the east side of Fawn Lane, behind the roadside ditch. The requirements for the “optimized” design are to:
- Provide enhanced safety for the area residents and students when waiting for the bus;
- Adjust the path alignment to avoid the need to remove tress, fences, mailboxes, etc.;
- Incorporate traffic-calming elements as roadway crossings by using speed cushions and push-button signage for safer crossing;
- Maintain the existing stormwater ditches as open ditches to the greatest degree possible to reduce maintenance costs and address the minimal stormwater flows that occur on the east side of the road.
Washoe County is grateful to residents for their input so far. Residents are invited to review the rough draft of the map drawings and provide any additional comments or questions they may have.
Washoe County has requested a final design by fall, which is a very reasonable time frame and will allow for time to review and approve the plan. As revisions are made, look for updates here.
