Washoe County Juvenile Services is aware of a scam targeting families involved in the juvenile justice system. The targets are receiving text messages claiming to be from Washoe County Juvenile Services Traffic Division and the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles demanding payment for traffic fines. These messages are fraudulent, and Washoe County will never request payment via text.
Do not click links in these messages, provide personal information, or send money. If you are unsure if a message is safe, please call Juvenile Services directly to confirm.
“Our mission is to support youth and families while promoting accountability and community safety. It is concerning when individuals attempt to exploit or take advantage of youth and families who are involved in our system,” Juvenile Services Director Elizabeth Florez said.
