Board of County Commissioners approves property tax rate for FY21-22 at special meeting

by | Jun 29, 2021

The Washoe County Board of County Commissioners today approved a resolution to levy tax rates for all local governments in Washoe County for Fiscal Year 2021-22, which begins July 1, 2021.

The Nevada Tax Commission certified the tax rates late last week, and state law dictates that the Board of County Commissioners must levy the rate per $100 of property levied for each governmental entity in the county.

The maximum rate per Nevada Revised Statute is $3.64 per $100 of assessed property value. In the most recent legislative session, the state approved the continuation of a state $.02 rate that is not subject to the cap.

As approved by the Commission, both the City of Reno and City of Sparks rates will be $3.6600 for FY21-22. Other rates vary for the fire protection districts and general improvement districts in Washoe County, but all rates are below the state-imposed cap.
