Washoe County joins communities around the world today recognizing the impact of grants on International Grant Professionals Day.
Grant professionals are the individuals who seek and award funding for the myriad programs and services that make our communities safe, enjoyable and, in many cases, affordable. These services benefit children, youth, elderly, the disadvantaged, the environment, the arts, education, libraries, hospitals, and more.
In Washoe County, grant funds typically come from a variety of federal, state, and foundation programs focused on areas such as public health, education, transportation, and social services. Residents benefit from grants that fund the response to natural disasters such as wildfires and floods, and recovery efforts to help us rebuild after a disaster. Other grant programs fund the infrastructure that keeps us connected and the lights turned on. Local healthcare systems use grants to research and abate diseases, environmental pollutants or unsafe air quality.
Childcare, educational programs, Specialty Courts, mental health, senior services, and more are all supported by grants that bridge the gap between the community’s needs and what tax dollars can afford.
“We work with an incredibly talented and passionate network of grants professionals to ensure that our community thrives through food, recreation, public safety, cultural, and social programs,” Washoe County Grants Administrator Connie Lucido said. “They are also meticulous in accounting and showing that every penny is spent in the most impactful way possible.”
