Washoe County joins America250 celebration with monthly Historic Courthouse commemoration ceremonies beginning in January 2026

July 4, 2026, marks the Nation’s semi quincentennial – or 250th anniversary – of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Beginning in January, the timeless columned entrance to the Washoe County Historic Courthouse will be open one day each month. Shortly after 8 a.m., Court will hold a Moment of Honor led by a local champion of democracy who will lead the Pledge of Allegiance and present a local musical artist to perform a patriotic song. The champion will also be given the opportunity to lead a presentation on a selected historical figure – who may make a special appearance – significant to America’s 250 years of nationhood.

Washoe County offices will be closed for Thanksgiving holiday
