Candidate filing for judicial offices is less than a few months away, and both judicial and nonjudicial candidates are encouraged to schedule a filing appointment in advance, Washoe County Registrar of Voters Andrew McDonald announced today.

“Filing for candidacy in Washoe County is the first crucial step to getting your name on the ballot,” McDonald said. “We’re encouraging all prospective candidates to schedule an appointment with my office to ensure they’re prepared and have a streamlined experience.”

Candidates wishing to file for eligible offices are encouraged to call the Registrar’s office at (775) 328-3670 to schedule a filing appointment.

The upcoming candidate filing periods for the 2026 election cycle are as follows:

  • Judicial offices: Monday, January 5, 2026, through Friday, January 16, 2026

  • Nonjudicial offices: Monday, March 2, 2026, through Friday, March 13, 2026

The Registrar of Voters serves as the filing officer only for offices located entirely within Washoe County. Candidates seeking to file for city offices, multi-county districts or statewide races must file with the appropriate filing officer for those jurisdictions.
