Reno, Nev. Feb. 18, 2020. The following report highlights several important agenda items from the Washoe County Board of Commissioners meeting:
1. The Board of County Commissioners accepted the following donations:
Donations to Washoe County Regional Animal Services in the amount of $10,621.84 from generous community members to be used for the humane care and treatment of sick, injured abandoned or at-risk animals.
Donations to Washoe County Human Services Agency of various items with an estimated value of $34,654.77 from generous community members, faith groups and businesses, as well as donations in the amount of $8,071.22 from generous community members to support child welfare activities.
Donation to the Washoe County Human Services Agency – Senior Services of various items with an estimated value of $2,160.00 and accept donations in the amount of $832.06 from generous community members to support operations of the Washoe County Senior Centers.
Donation to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office in the amount of $300 from Fire Shows West to the Citizen Corps Program.
2. Commissioners direct Special District Funds. The Board of County Commissioners has approved special district funds disbursement for:
Vice-Chair Marsha Berkbigler in the amount of $8,800 to support various arts and cultural programming throughout Washoe County.
Commissioner Vaughn Hartung in the amount of $17,500, with $12,500 of those funds to support the Community Foundation of Western Nevada Youth Engaged in Service (YES) grant, and $5,000 to support the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District Ash Can Program.
Commissioner Jeanne Herman in the amount of $3,000, with $1,500 of those funds to support a grant to the Vya Conservation District to support their natural resource conservation mission, and $1,500 to support the Washoe Storey Conservation District to support invasive weed eradication and wildfire prevention.
Commission Special District Funds were created on Feb. 10, 2015, to provide $20,000 to be distributed by each Commissioner in their Commission District, for a total amount of $100,000. The money will support the needs of all county residents.
