Sandbag locations restocked as New Year’s weather approaches

by | Dec 31, 2025

Washoe County is reminding residents and drivers to stay vigilant as wet weather approaches, which may increase the risk of localized flooding on roads and in neighborhoods as Nevada rings in the new year.

Residents looking to prepare can access sandbag locations at perimetermap.com. There are 24 locations available spread throughout the region. Remember to bring a shovel to fill the provided bags.

Remain alert to changing conditions as flooding may occur on streets and in low-lying areas, particularly where storm drains, culverts, or drainage channels are blocked by leaves or debris. Residents are encouraged to monitor conditions around their homes and neighborhoods and clear debris from drainage areas when it is safe to do so.

Drivers are asked to use extra caution when traveling on wet roads. Changing conditions may include standing water, slick surfaces, and reduced visibility. Washoe County reminds the public never to drive through flooded roadways as even shallow water can be dangerous. Remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

At higher elevations in Incline Village and Crystal Bay, winter parking restrictions are in effect for snow-removal operations. Residents can use the Where’s My Plow page to review current parking rules and track snowplow activity in near real time. Parking on roadways during restricted periods is illegal and may lead to fines, vehicle damage and delays to plowing operations.
