A Cool Way to Help Washoe County’s Seniors

by | Jun 3, 2024

Reno, Nev. June 3, 2024. Temperatures are on the rise and so is the need for more fans in Washoe County. KOLO Cares News Now Channel 8 is sponsoring the Washoe County Human Services Agency’s (HSA) 2024 Summer Fan Drive for seniors from now until the end of August. Thanks to the generous citizens of Washoe County, HSA received and handed out almost 900 fans to local seniors last summer.

“This is one of our most important donation drives and continues to grow every single year. Keeping our seniors cool is the goal during the sweltering summer months. We are asking our amazing community to buy a brand new fan and bring it to our Washoe County Senior Center. It’s a very simple purchase and process but one that goes a long way in helping seniors remain comfortable,” said HSA Director Ryan Gustafson.

Those 60 and older, can pick-up a fan Monday-Friday, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., at the Washoe County Senior Center, which is located at 1155 E. 9th St., Building E. Seniors are asked to contact Washoe County Senior Services at (775) 328-2575 ext. 9, to see if a fan is available before coming by.
