2026 judicial candidate filing begins Jan. 5

by | Jan 2, 2026

The 2026 election cycle begins with candidate filing for judicial offices opening next week and continuing through Jan. 16. Candidate filing during this two-week period is available during regular business hours.

Candidates wishing to file for eligible offices are encouraged to call the Registrar’s office at 775-328-3670 to schedule a filing appointment. Walk-ins are accepted, but due to limited staff availability, appointments will be served first.

Those filing should come prepared with a current driver’s license displaying their residential address. For those without a driver’s license, documentation showing their current residential address is required. Acceptable documentation includes a utility bill, bank statement or paycheck. All filing fees must be paid in cash, cashier’s check or certified check. Personal or campaign checks and credit cards are not accepted.

In 2023, the Nevada Legislature passed SB418, which requires all nonincumbent judicial candidates to complete an SB418 questionnaire when filing. Pre-filling the questionnaire before arriving is recommended.

As a reminder, the January filing period is for judicial offices only. Candidate filing for all nonjudicial offices begins March 2.

The Registrar of Voters serves as the filing officer only for offices located entirely within Washoe County. Candidates seeking to file for city offices, multi-county districts or statewide races must file with the appropriate filing officer for those jurisdictions. For more information about filing officers, candidate qualifications, filing fees and other election details, visit the Registrar’s website at washoecounty.gov/voters.
