How do you use technology? Do you use a smartphone to communicate with friends near and far? Do you use a computer to pay bills or apply for jobs? Do you stream movies on an internet-connected TV? Do you play online video games?
Or would you like to learn more about how to use technology? Washoe County Library is here to help. As part of the library’s strategic plan, we are committed to meeting the technology needs of our community. On April 1, we’re launching the Washoe County Library Technology Survey to better understand our community’s technological interests and how we can help people better accomplish their technology goals.
The survey asks community members to anonymously share the ways they use technology, what more they’d like to learn about technology, and how they’d like to learn it — in a traditional class, through an online course, or with individual instruction.
“Washoe County Library endeavors to keep up with the pace of technological change and ensure our community has the resources to keep up,” Library Director Jeff Scott said. “This survey will help us understand the greatest needs in Washoe County.”
Washoe County Library already offers online resources, including technology training through LinkedIn Learning, downloadable ebooks and audiobooks through the Libby app, and access to newspapers and academic journals through ProQuest.
The library also provides in-person instruction on technology, including the Digital Skills 101 classes at the Northwest Reno Library, and the Computer Skills Series classes at the Sparks Library. One-on-one assistance with technology is also available at six library locations through the Book a Librarian program.
But Washoe County Library is committed to providing our community members with even more of the technology support they’ll need to thrive in today’s world. And we want members pf the community to help guide us to providing the best assistance possible.
Results from this survey will inform educational strategies and resource allocations. The data will help document Washoe County Library’s needs for technology and connectivity and help us decide what equipment, databases, and programs will best support the community’s technology needs.
Visit washoelibrary.org/technologysurvey from Tuesday, April 1, to Wednesday, April 30, to complete the survey. All responses are anonymous. For more information about library services and online resources, visit washoecountylibrary.us.
