Washoe County Library System Highlights TeenTober

by | Sep 29, 2021

This October, Washoe County Library System is excited to participate in the Young Adult Library Services Association’s (YALSA) annual TeenTober celebration! Developed by YALSA, this event highlights the importance of library services geared toward teens. TeenTober provides an opportunity to foster a positive connection between teens and libraries by educating teens about the benefits of regular library use.

TeenTober merges YALSA’s successful and long-standing Teen Tech Week™ and Teen Read Week™ initiatives into one program to celebrate teen services. This year, Washoe County Library will be promoting teen services like online resources, digital and print materials, and a reading challenge!

Teens ages 13-19 can kick off the celebration by signing up for the 100 Books Before Graduation Reading Challenge. This reading challenge encourages teens to read for fun and choose books that are a good fit, not just for their reading level but also for their likes and interests. To get started, participants will need to download the Beanstack app and create an account. They will be able to earn digital badges along the way by logging each book read.

This TeenTober, Washoe County Library aims to inspire lifelong learning in teens and is committed to helping them learn new skills, discover interests, and fuel their passions.
