Food for Fines Is Back! November 1 – November 30

by | Oct 31, 2016

Yes, it’s the time of year you’ve been waiting for! From November 1-30, patrons can bring cans or boxes of non-perishable food to the library in lieu of overdue fines to support efforts to combat hunger in our community. Food barrels will be placed at all Washoe County Library locations and donated food will be delivered to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.  Donations in Incline Village will help support Project MANA.
Library patrons are asked to bring one non-perishable food item for every overdue book or other item. (Food cannot be exchanged for lost or damaged library materials.) Washoe County Library Director Jeff Scott says, “Everyone is welcome to participate in this collaborative food drive.  Each year the library has delivered thousands of pounds of food to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada and Project MANA.  We are pleased to continue to offer this opportunity.”
These food items are especially needed: Canned meats, fish and peanut butter; macaroni & cheese and pasta meals; powdered milk, baby formula and baby food; complete meals in a can such as stew, chili, ravioli and hearty soups; canned fruits, juice and vegetables; dry cereal, oatmeal, rice and pasta.
