Celebrate National Library Week at Washoe County Library April 6–12

by | Apr 7, 2025

What draws people to the library? Everything! From books and digital resources to job assistance and creative programming, libraries are essential to thriving communities.

National Library Week, April 6–12, is a time to celebrate the many ways libraries bring people together, spark imagination, and support lifelong learning. Join us on Tuesday, April 8, at 10 am at the Board of County Commissioners meeting, for a proclamation in honor of this national observance sponsored by the American Library Association.

At Washoe County Library, we invite the community to join the celebration! Whether you’re a frequent patron or haven’t visited in years, now is a great time to explore all the library has to offer. Our library locations offer a variety of programs, classes, and events, including Story Times, Pioneer Center Youth Programs, Book a Librarian, and technology classes. Library patrons also enjoy free access to print and digital materials, online databases, Wi-Fi, and computers.

This National Library Week, take the time to rediscover the library and see how it draws us together as a community. For library enthusiasts, it’s the perfect time to visit a different library than your usual home branch. Have you checked out the Incline Village Library during a day trip to Lake Tahoe? Or attended the Weeknight Artist Retreat every Thursday evening at the Sparks Library? Have you brought your kids to a fun family event, like the Brüka Theatre for Children program this Thursday, April 10, at the North Valleys Library? Or LEGO Club every Saturday at the Sierra View Library? Have you taken your teenage kids to one of the epic Dungeons & Dragon events every Friday at the Spanish Springs Library? When was the last time you visited the incredible plant life inside the historic Downtown Reno Library, the serene art gallery at the Northwest Reno Library, or the renovated periodicals area at the South Valleys Library? Or one of our four partnership locations?

Whatever draws you in, the library has something for everyone. Whether you’re preparing for a career change, launching a business, raising a family, or embracing retirement, Washoe County Library is here to support your journey. Libraries serve as hubs for learning, creativity, and connection, helping people of all ages explore new ideas and opportunities.
