Budget Manager Lori Cooke presented an overview of the previous year’s budget and presented the financial outlook for the upcoming fiscal year, 2027, which begins July 1, 2026.The presentation provided context for next week’s Board of County Commissioners Budget Workshop at which the Board will prioritize strategic objectives for the best use of the budget for the coming year.  

1. New Commission Chair and Vice-Chair elected: The Board voted to appoint Commissioner Clara Andriola as incoming chair and Commissioner Mariluz Garcia as incoming vice-chair. They will serve two-year terms in these roles, effective at the close of the meeting.  ...

At the last Board of County Commissioners meeting for the year, the Board voted to approve the purchase of a home damaged by the 2027 Lemmon Valley flood to eliminate the risk - and cost - of future flood damage. The Board also approved a lease for a warehouse to which the Registrar of Voters will relocate its operations and administration in the future.

In two separate actions today, the Board of County Commissioners approved funding to better serve those in need of mental health care while serving time in the Washoe County Jail. A $15 million grant from the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services will enable the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office to continue its Jail Based Mental Health Program through June 2027. The original grant of $5.8 million was approved in April 2024, and today an additional $9.9 million was approved.
