In partnership with North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District, Sierra Avalanche Center, Incline Village General Improvement District, Nevada Office of Emergency Management, and FEMA, Washoe County is now unveiling a new avalanche safety and warning sign to prevent avalanches often caused by backcountry recreation.
Most Washoe County offices will be closed Friday, Oct. 31 in observance of Nevada Day, the annual celebration of Nevada’s statehood.
The Board of County Commissioners conducted a first hearing of an ordinance that would repeal County Code Chapter 11, which established the Department of Alternative Sentencing. A second reading will be conducted at the November 18 Board of County Commissioners, and a staffing report will be presented at the December 16 meeting, with a full dissolution of the department completed by the beginning of 2026.
Davis Creek Regional Park will receive 150 Jeffrey pine trees, and the St. James Village neighborhood adjacent to the park that suffered widespread fire damage will receive an additional 150 trees, donated along with soil additives and fertilizer from Moana Nursery.
