Washoe County Library is excited to announce the reopening of the Northwest Reno Library on Monday, September 21. The branch closed on May 6 for heating and cooling replacement and a roof retrofit. Construction is now complete and branch staff are thrilled to welcome patrons back into the building.
The community is invited to celebrate as the Northwest Reno Library kicks off fall events throughout the week. Wednesday, September 23, marks the debut of the Yiddish Book Group, an initiative of the Yiddish Book Center’s Public Libraries Program, which brings Yiddish literature in translation to libraries nationwide. At 5 pm, the group will discuss Sholem Aleichem’s famous work Tevye the Dairyman. Copies of the book will be provided to participants while supplies last.
On Thursday, September 24, at 4:30 pm, the celebration of community will continue as we welcome the San Francisco Yiddish Combo for an introduction to klezmer music. Led by cellist Rebecca Roudman, the classically trained musicians in the San Francisco Yiddish Combo enjoy stretching musical boundaries. The group is on a journey around the world to present their own unique blend of everything that is klezmer, mixed with years of experience in the jazz, blues, folk, and even hip-hop worlds. This event is provided thanks to generous support from the Yiddish Book Center, to enhance this fall’s Yiddish Book Group.
Parents and children will be welcomed back to Baby Social on Tuesday September 22 at 10:30 am, and to Preschool Story Time on Wednesday, September 23, at 10:30 am. Additional event highlights for the week include Creative Corner, Try It Thursday, Thursdays of Terror, SaturYay, and Pardon the Pawn.
