Second Judicial District Court warns residents of recent scam involving fraudulent court documents

by | Dec 18, 2024

The Second Judicial District Court (District Court) has been made aware of a recent scam in which Washoe County residents have been asked for payment to resolve an outstanding warrant or jury service issue. In some cases, fraudulent court documents have been sent via text message or email. Scammers misrepresent themselves as Court personnel or law enforcement, and request payment in exchange for resolving the outstanding jury summons or warrant. If payment is not made, the scammers threaten imminent arrest.

The District Court will never unexpectedly text or email official Court documents. Any communication from the District Court of official documents will occur via U.S. Mail or through the Court’s electronic filing system (eFlex).

The District Court cannot accept payment via phone and will never request that payment be made via phone. The District Court will never ask for personal or financial information over the phone.

If you receive contact you believe to be fraudulent, please report the phone call, text or email immediately to your local law enforcement agency. If you have questions regarding the legitimacy of any court-related communication received, please reach out to the District Court’s Resource Center at 775-325-6731 or visit the Resource Center on the third floor of 1 South Sierra Street, Reno, Nevada 89501.
