Language learning program Rosetta Stone now available from Washoe County Library

Washoe County Library now offers free access to Rosetta Stone Library Solution, an award-winning online language learning platform. A technology-based service frequently requested by Washoe County Library patrons, Rosetta Stone offers language and literacy tools to help build reading, writing, speaking, and literacy skills. Its activities help users refine grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation for 24 world languages, including, Spanish, Japanese, and Arabic.

Prior to adding this service, Washoe County Library already offered several digital learning services for library users, including Mango Languages for language learning. However, Washoe County Library Internet Services Librarian John Andrews said Rosetta Stone complements the learning tools already offered by the library.

“Rosetta Stone’s visual approach offers an alternative to other text-based resources offered by the library, providing an additional resource to help meet the language-learning needs of all our users,” he said.

Core features of Rosetta Stone include live classes with a language coach, on-demand videos specific to the languages and their cultures, travel-oriented phrasebooks for quick learning, and an audio companion that enables on-the-go users to practice pronunciation, vocabulary, phrases, speaking and conversation.

Online resources and services are key to Washoe County Library’s mission to “connect people with information, ideas, and experiences to support an enriched and engaged community,” and now Rosetta Stone is a featured component of the library’s suite of digital learning services.

The Rosetta Stone Library Solution platform is free for patrons with a Washoe County Library card. For access to the service, visit washoelibrary.org/rosettastone. To register for a library card, visit washoelibrary.org/librarycard.
