Washoe County Regional Animal Services (WCRAS) proudly announces a collaborative partnership with the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) to enhance community access to pet microchip scanning services. A demonstration of the new scanners will be held on February 20 at 11a.m. at TMFPD Station #33, the first fire station to feature a microchip scanner.
Since its inception in 2022, the public microchip scanning stations initiative has helped community members reunite lost pets with their families. Now, through this partnership with TMFPD, WCRAS is excited to expand the reach of these vital resources across our region. This allows lost pets to get home faster while preserving vital shelter space for animals who truly need it.
Using any of the scanning stations is simple: bring found pets to any scanning station location; follow the directions to scan the pet for a microchip; lookup the microchip number on our website; and contact the microchip company to report the pet as found. The microchip company can then connect the owner and the finder to reunite the pet.
