WCSO Urges Safety and Responsibility at Moon Rocks Over Memorial Day Weekend

May 20, 2025

Washoe County, NV — The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public to stay safe and exercise caution while enjoying outdoor recreation at Moon Rocks during the upcoming Memorial Day Weekend.

As we anticipate increased activity in this popular off-road area, we ask all visitors to act responsibly and follow basic safety rules to ensure a safe environment for everyone:

  • Do not operate any vehicle while impaired.
  • Discharging firearms is strictly prohibited.
  • Fireworks are not permitted.
  • Stay within your skill level when driving off-road vehicles.
  • Report any unsafe or unlawful behavior immediately.

Deputies will be monitoring the area to ensure compliance and maintain public safety. Our goal is to support a fun and incident-free holiday weekend for all outdoor enthusiasts.

In addition, the Sheriff’s Office encourages residents traveling out of the area for the holiday to take steps to protect their property:

  • Secure all homes and vehicles before leaving.
  • If possible, notify a trusted neighbor of your absence so they can report any suspicious activity.

As we honor and remember the men and women of the United States Military who gave the ultimate sacrifice while protecting and serving our great country, let’s also be responsible, aware, and respectful of each other and the community around us.

Stay safe. Stay alert. And enjoy your Memorial Day Weekend.
