WCSO K9 Unit Arrests Suspect on Felony Drug Trafficking Charges

On the evening of May 12, 2026, members of the Washoe County Sheriff’s K9 Unit conducted a traffic stop in the area of I-580 and Bellevue Road.

After an on-scene investigation, deputies arrested the driver, identified as 28-year-old Jose Arias-Aquino, on multiple drug-related charges after methamphetamine was located within his vehicle.

Arias-Aquino attempted to flee on foot from the scene and was quickly taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit.

Arias-Aquino was transported to the Washoe County Detention Facility, where he was booked on multiple felony charges, including:

  • Trafficking a Controlled Substance (400+ grams)
  • Possession with Intent to Sell a Controlled Substance
  • Sell/Transport a Controlled Substance
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine, 42+ grams)
  • Resisting a Public Officer (misdemeanor)

The total amount of methamphetamine seized was 29 pounds.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office continues active enforcement efforts focused on combating illegal narcotics activity, reducing the presence of dangerous drugs, and improving public safety throughout Washoe County.
