From August 7 through August 31, 2026, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office will participate in a statewide Joining Forces campaign focused on distracted driving. Throughout the campaign period, deputies will dedicate additional patrol efforts aimed at encouraging attentive, distraction-free driving on Nevada roadways.
Distracted driving is any activity that diverts a driver’s attention away from safely operating a vehicle. This can include texting or talking on a cell phone, eating, adjusting music or navigation controls, or interacting with passengers. Even a momentary distraction can lead to serious consequences. The use of electronic devices while driving continues to be one of the most common and dangerous distractions.
Law enforcement agencies across Nevada will work together throughout the campaign to address distracted driving and help reduce preventable crashes. Drivers are encouraged to put away their phones, avoid unnecessary distractions, and remain focused on the road every time they get behind the wheel.

The Nevada Department of Public Safety’s- Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) provides funding for law enforcement agencies to participate in Joining Forces to reduce traffic deaths.
