The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office will participate in the statewide Joining Forces Click It or Ticket campaign from May 13 through May 21, 2026. During this campaign, deputies will conduct increased patrols and enforcement efforts focused on seat belt compliance. The goal is simple, to encourage every driver and passenger to buckle up on every trip, no matter how short.
Seat belts remain one of the most effective tools for preventing serious injury and death in a crash. Despite ongoing education efforts, fatalities continue to occur on Nevada roadways involving unrestrained occupants. Wearing a seat belt properly, with both the lap and shoulder belt secured across the hips and chest, significantly improves protection during a collision. Placing the shoulder belt behind the back or under the arm reduces its effectiveness and increases the risk of injury.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to reducing the number of fatalities on Nevada’s roads to zero by increasing public awareness about the dangers of speeding, driving unrestrained, impaired driving, distracted driving, and more. The Nevada Department of Public Safety’s- Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) provides funding for law enforcement agencies to participate in Joining Forces to reduce traffic deaths.
