Washoe County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Assists Plumas County Sheriff’s Office in Apprehension of Escaped Inmate

Oct 17, 2024

Escaped Plumas County inmate Caleb Duerr, 39, is back in custody following a brief standoff with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team and the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday afternoon. Duerr, who had escaped from the Plumas County Jail on September 27, 2024, was considered violent and dangerous.

On October 17, 2024, at around 11:00 a.m., the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from WCSO SWAT to respond to a residence in the Johnsville, California, area where they believed Duerr was hiding. WCSO deployed its SWAT, Hostage Negotiation, K9, and Drone teams to assist in the operation.

Upon arrival, WCSO teams coordinated with Plumas County Sheriff’s Office deputies at the identified residence. Officers at the scene called for Duerr to exit the home, and he ultimately surrendered without incident and was taken into custody by the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office.
