Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Seeks Volunteers to Help Combat Package Theft

Nov 20, 2024

With the holiday season upon us, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is launching a sting operation to help combat package theft, commonly known as “porch piracy.” Volunteers from unincorporated areas of Washoe County are invited to participate by offering their porches for the operation, which will take place in various neighborhoods over the coming weeks.

If you’re interested in volunteering your porch for this operation, please fill out the form at https://forms.gle/waUrvDv6sjkcuv5S8.

Community support has been invaluable in the past, and we are grateful for your continued willingness to help. If your home is selected for participation this year, you will receive an email with further details.

In addition to participating in the operation, residents can take the following steps to reduce the risk of package theft:

  • Track your packages and plan to be home for delivery, or ask a trusted neighbor or friend to retrieve them.
  • Have packages delivered to your workplace, if permitted.
  • Require a signature for delivery.
  • Use delivery lockers for secure drop-offs.
  • Install security cameras visible from the street.
  • Report suspicious activity to law enforcement immediately.

By working together, we can make Washoe County safer and help protect our community from package theft this holiday season.
