On the evening of Wednesday, August 6, 2025, deputies from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to an incident involving a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash at the intersection of Foothill Road and Broili Drive in Reno. The pedestrian was found to be the driver of the vehicle who had fallen out of her own car while it was in motion.
Deputies arrived at approximately 8:43 p.m. and located a woman sitting in the middle of the roadway with bystanders assisting. When asked what had happened, the woman stated she had “run herself over.” Further investigation revealed signs of significant alcohol impairment, including slurred speech, confusion, and the pungent odor of an alcoholic beverage.
According to an eyewitness on the scene, the woman had been behind the wheel of her vehicle, appeared disoriented, and attempted to drive away after checking damage to her car. The witness reported seeing her open the driver’s door while the vehicle was still moving, at which point she fell out onto the roadway. The vehicle continued rolling and struck a nearby stop sign.
Due to the potential for internal injuries, the woman was transported by REMSA to a local hospital for medical evaluation. Following medical clearance, the woman was booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility for Driving Under the Influence (DUI – 1st offense) in violation of NRS 484C.110.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public:
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs puts everyone on the road in danger — including the driver.
- Even seemingly minor decisions, like choosing to drive after “just a few drinks,” can lead to serious injury or death.
- If you plan to drink, plan ahead and use a rideshare, taxi, or designated driver.
