Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Raises Funds for Charitable Causes During Annual “No Shave” Campaign

Mar 3, 2024

Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam announced that staff raised $23,730 during the Sheriff’s Office annual “No Shave” campaign – which ran between October 1, 2023 – January 31, 2024.

“Over the course of four months, spanning from October to January, members of our Washoe County Sheriff’s Office family contributed to fundraising efforts for numerous charitable endeavors in our community,” said Sheriff Darin Balaam. These fundraising efforts were entirely voluntary and a small way for us to reciprocate the support provided by organizations and individuals who play crucial roles in assisting members of our community.”

In exchange for a monthly charitable donation, Sheriff Balaam authorized male deputies to grow facial hair outside the standard grooming policy. Female deputies were permitted to have relaxed hair standards, and civilian staff members could take advantage of the relaxed grooming standards or wear hats, sports jerseys, and/or attire that supported branches of the United States Armed Forces.

This year’s “No Shave” contributions were made to Pinocchio’s Moms on the Run, Renown Men’s Health Center, Northern Nevada Concerns of Police Survivors, and the University of Nevada, Reno’s Sanford Center for Aging.
