From July 1 through July 20, 2026, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office will participate in a statewide Joining Forces campaign aimed at reducing crashes caused by excessive speed. During this period, deputies will focus on proactive traffic enforcement and visible patrols throughout Washoe County to address unsafe driving behaviors and reinforce Nevada’s speed laws.
Speed related crashes remain a serious concern on Nevada roadways. Driving at an unsafe speed can:
- Reduce a driver’s ability to respond to sudden hazards
- Increase stopping distance
- Decrease vehicle control
- Intensify the severity of a crash
Speeding is not limited to exceeding the posted limit. It also includes failing to adjust for road conditions, traffic flow, construction zones, or inclement weather. Choosing a safe and appropriate speed gives drivers more time to react and helps protect everyone traveling on our roadways.
